If you are one of the 10,000 + members of the New Jersey Chapter of the United States
Lacrosse Foundation who are receiving this
inaugural digital e-mail newsletter you should be very proud of yourself. It means that you have taken the sport of lacrosse to your heart even though it has still not achieved the mainstream popularity of other sports.
It means that you were willing to take a chance and be a part of something small but growing instead of something comfortable and established. You recognized the
inherent benefits and challenging skills that a sport often called "The Fastest Game on Two Feet" can provide and you chose to be part of a community that feels
the
same way. Lacrosse is fun. Lacrosse is exciting. Lacrosse is a sport that is growing and should continue to grow as long as people are given the opportunity to experience it.
This digital newsletter has been designed with those
ideals in mind. Its main goal is to communicate information from the New Jersey Chapter of the Lacrosse Foundation to its members and to enlighten them on the exciting things that are happening around the state with regards to the sport of lacrosse.
Almost daily things are happening around the state, which are changing the face of the sport. It will also endeavor to find links to the past
and preserve information on the rich history of the sport and New Jersey's involvement in it.
It also hopes to better direct and inform lacrosse
enthusiasts to enhance their enjoyment of the sport and enlighten newcomers so that they can become future fans and make lacrosse grow even more.
The idea
of the digital newsletter evolved in several meetings during the winter of 2004 between Charles Shoulberg, the founder of STEPS Lacrosse and current 2nd Vice President of the New Jersey Chapter of the United States Lacrosse Foundation and Mark Kitchin the editor of the New Jersey Lacrosse Network. The discussions involved finding a way to provide communication between the Foundation and its members. In those meeting it was decided that combining resources might help the Foundation better reach those goals.
Its sponsors, STEPS Lacrosse and the
Indoor Sports Pavilion, an indoor training facility located in Randolph, are paying the costs of creating and distributing the newsletter. The New Jersey Lacrosse Network, which is located at www.njlax.net, has agreed to provide content for the newsletter. Established in April of 2003, the New Jersey Lacrosse Network's purpose
is to provide an outlet for lacrosse news and information that may not
be readily accessible in mainstream media. It covers all aspects of the sport from professional to the youth level.
The newsletter was designed by Cue and
A Productions, website designers located in Mountain Lakes. Approval for the newsletter by the Lacrosse Foundation was given in late March. Any suggestions or feedback on it can be passed on to cshoulberg@stepslacrosse.com or feedback@njlax.net. We hope you enjoy it.
